Improving Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is quite common in adults. There are many causes of this condition, and proper medical intervention is needed to determine it.

Usually, the cause is related to activities that the individual isn't used to performing.

This over-exertion can result in a slipped disk (or a herniated disk). This occurs when there is twisting while lifting. A slipped disk sounds worse than it probably is. It is merely the occurrence of your spinal bone bulging slightly, and touching on some nerves. There are basic exercises than can remedy this.

Lie on Your Back.

This is so easy to do, and it's really effective. Just lie flat on the floor and place some pillows under your head and knees for support. This relieves your lower back. You could also try place a pillow on a chair and put your feet on the chair with your back on the floor.

It is recommended to stay in this position for around 5-25 minutes each session.

This is a great way of resting the back and relieving the pressure off your lower back. This exercise should be done a maximum of 2 days in a row, and you should walk around every hour.

Use Heating Pads and/or Ice Packs

Using heated pads will help with the muscle spasms in your back. You can use them for about 30 minutes each time. Ice packs can be used instead of heated pads.

Medicines to Reduce Swelling

Swelling can be minimized by taking medications like Aspirin or Entrophen. Panadol can control minor pain.

Therapeutic Massage

Inflammation and swelling can be improved by massaging the lower back. Relaxed muscles will improve circulation, and this often relieves the apin.

If these tips are combined, together with much needed bed rest, your back pain should be gone and your back should be returned to its old self.

You should consider performing some back strengthening exercises for long-term wellness of your back. We will have future articles on that topic.

Take note that if your lower back continues to bother you for 2-3 weeks, you should visit your doctor. There is no substitute for professional medical advice.
